Teatro delle relazioni
Master Curatorial Practice IED Firenze
December 2024
The publication Teatro delle relazioni (Theatre of Relations) was realised on the occasion of the exhibition project of the same name organised by IED Firenze and Fondazione Palazzo Strozzi. The exhibition and performance program explore the concept of community in its various meanings: community as a space of belonging that shapes our way of living and being together, but also as a practice of artistic creation that redefines new models of production and sharing. The project was curated by the 2023-24 class of the Master in Curatorial Practice at IED Firenze under the guidance of Daria Filardo (IED) and Martino Margheri (Palazzo Strozzi). It is the fourth volume published as part of Kunstverein Publishing series Extra: publishing projects developed in collaboration with students and educational institutions.
The exhibition Teatro delle relazioni (Theatre of Relations) explores and embraces the possibilities of community as a form of living and a living form. Here, communities are understood not as static entities but as a sum of dynamic relations shaped by those within them. The exhibition resists fixed forms and accepts multiple interpretations of community; they can be chosen, temporary, solid, fragile, in flux, multifaceted, a refuge, a constellation. Conceived as an open-ended process, Teatro delle relazioni, is a stage upon which visual, temporary, and dialogic encounters play out addressing the nature, meaning and importance of communities.
With a plurality of voices we oppose a singular authorial voice. We facilitated a dialogic approach with the artists to share in their words how the work resonates with their personal understanding of community. This publication is testament to shared authorship, collective participation, and collaboration that reflects the power of dialogue in fostering creativity and unity."
The project includes work by Agnese Banti, Aleksander Đuravčević, Sara Leghissa, Franco Menicagli, Scuola di Santa Rosa (Francesco Lauretta and Luigi Presicce), and Wurmkos, ranging from drawing, sculpture, performance, sound and participatory practices.(Excerpt from the curatorial text)
